Cheeseburger Pie

cheeseburger pie       This recipe is out of my cookbook,” Square Meals, taste thrills of only yesterday” A book on vintage American recipes from the 1920s – 1950s.

It is surprisingly good besides it being a little on the sweet side(for me) because of the Bisquick mix. Ella & John loved it!! They called it a keeper. Nutrition wise I would think its not too bad, it only has 3/4 cup of Bisquick mix and with our lean ground beef and partly skimmed milk these days, trims it down.Served with veggies instead of fries, this meal is pretty well rounded.

I have never boughten a box of Bisquick in my life….that would have been unheard of…everything made from scratch. However I’m having a bit of fun with it. You can use it for anything from apple cake to coating for baked chicken, pancakes, waffles, & biscuits(of course) and the list goes on and I’m sure more interesting.

Pre heat oven to 400 degrees, grease 10″ pie plate.

1 lb ground beef, brown with 1 1/2 cups chopped onion. Add salt & pepper to taste. Spoon into prepared pie plate.

Mix together 3/4 cup Bisquick mix, 3 eggs, & 1 1/2 cups milk. Blend smooth and pour over hamburger filling. Bake 35 min, remove from oven top with sliced tomatoe & 1 cup+ med cheddar cheese bake about 8 min more. Remove from oven & let cool 5-10 min. Serve with veggies & dip or tossed salad and all the usual cheese burger condiments.
